Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT Group) has acquired multi-platform English Premier League rights in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, in a deal that runs from 2022 to 2028. Live EPL streaming will be available on Viaplay – the leading online video streaming service in the Nordic region. Live Premier League matches and full replays may also be aired on NENT’s pay-TV and free-TV channels. The deal marks the first broadcast rights agreement for the Premier League’s cycle starting with the 2022-2023 season, and it also marks the first time a European broadcaster has secured EPL rights for a six-year period.
NENT Group has retained its Bundesliga rights in the Nordic region until 2025. The broadcast deal extension will see the pan-Nordic broadcaster air over 300 live German Bundesliga matches on its streaming service Viaplay, every season. Many of these Bundesliga games will also be aired live on NENT Group’s linear television networks. At least one Bundesliga match will be shown in Ultra HD format every match week. The agreement also includes pan-Nordic media rights to the German Super Cup, 2. Bundesliga and the Bundesliga relegation playoffs. Additional programming will include expert studio analysis in local languages, and match highlights.
NENT Group has secured exclusive Europa League rights in Sweden, Norway and Finland in a three-year deal that will run from 2021 to 2024. All Europa League matches will be streamed live on Viaplay, with extensive studio programming. Games will be available on Viasat’s pay-television offerings across the region, whereas NENT Group’s Swedish, Danish and Norwegian linear TV channels will also broadcast select matches. The pan-Nordic media company is set to offer all the Europa League action with local-language commentary in all three countries.
NENT holds pan-Nordic media rights to the German Bundesliga until 2021. The broadcaster shows live Bundesliga matches across its television and digital platforms in high definition every week. This includes its streaming service Viaplay and linear TV channels. Commentary is provided in local languages in each Nordic country, along with expert studio analysis.
Viasat has the exclusive multi-platform broadcasting rights for the UEFA Nations League, as well as the qualifying matches for the 2020 Euro Cup and the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The agreement sees Viasat airing approximately 250 international fixtures on Viasat network channels and streaming platforms in Finland. The Finland National Men's matches will available on free-to-air networks as well as on Viafree.
